    Trek Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the best-kept secrets of the Annapurna region — a compact 5-day route that delivers remarkably close views of Machapuchare (the sacred Fishtail peak) and Mardi Himal, without the crowds of the Annapurna Base Camp or Poon Hill routes. Beginning and ending in Pokhara, the trek ascends a dramatic ridgeline above the Seti River gorge through ancient rhododendron and oak forest, breaking out onto an open alpine ridge with unobstructed 360-degree views of the Annapurna massif.

Despite its modest duration, the Mardi Himal Trek reaches 4,500 m at Mardi Himal Base Camp — making it a genuine high-altitude experience. The pre-dawn sunrise hike to Base Camp on Day 3 is one of the most spectacular mornings available on any short trek in Nepal. The descent via Siding Village adds an authentic cultural dimension rarely found on busier trekking routes. This is the ideal choice for trekkers with limited time who refuse to compromise on mountain grandeur.

    Important Notes

Key route details for timing, cash, safety and comfort on this trek.

    1. 01

Carry sufficient NPR cash before leaving Pokhara — there are absolutely no ATMs on the trail

    2. 02

Start each trekking day early — mornings are clearer, cooler, and safer on steep sections

    3. 03

The Day 3 Base Camp start at 4–5 AM is not optional — weather deteriorates rapidly in the afternoon

    4. 04

High Camp is exposed and can be very cold at night — warm layers and a good sleeping bag are essential

    5. 05

Travel insurance covering emergency helicopter evacuation is strongly recommended. Carry proof

    6. 06

Hydrate consistently and ascend slowly — the altitude gain on Day 2 and Day 3 is significant for a short trek

    7. 07

The Siding descent route (Day 4) is quieter than the standard return but can be muddy in wet conditions

    8. 08

Tipping is customary and appreciated: USD 8–12/day for guide; USD 5–8/day for porter

    9. 09

Carry reusable water bottles — avoid single-use plastics throughout the trek

    10. 10

The itinerary may need adjustment due to weather, trail conditions, or individual pace — be flexible
